Johns Hopkins Medicine Suburban Spring 2018

National Stroke Awareness Month is in May, and Suburban Hospital is not just a leader in stroke treatment and care, but our unique collaboration with the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke/National Institutes of Health (NINDS/NIH) allows us to participate in groundbreaking research and education that is unusual in a community hospital setting.

As you will read in our story, “Restoring the Flow,” when patient Cecilia Wan experienced a severe stroke, thanks to Zurab Nadareishvili, M.D., Ph.D., and his team of neurologists, interventional radiologists and scientists from Suburban Hospital, NINDS and NIH, her treatment was swift and effective and she made a complete recovery.

Spring also brings with it the 35th anniversary of our busy Cardiac Rehabilitation Department. Our exercise equipment and state-of-the-art monitoring devices might have changed dramatically since our first patient stepped foot on a treadmill in 1983, but the staff’s dedication to improving the quality of life for cardiac surgery patients and the relationships that patients have built with one another over time remain strong and steadfast.
