Symposium and RAMP Funding Announcement
The Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network is interested in learning how we can better support clinical research in the area of ethics and want to share two opportunities that may be of interest to you, or someone in your department; first a free symposium and second a research funding opportunity:
SYMPOSIUM: The Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network (JHCRN) will be hosting the 4th Annual Trends in Clinical Research on Thursday, November 8th 2018, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the Chevy Chase Auditorium. This year’s keynote topic is “Blurring of the Boundaries between Clinical Research and Clinical Practice,” presented by Jonathan Moreno, PhD. Dr. Moreno is the David and Lyn University Professor of Ethics at the Perlman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Register here.
FUNDING: The Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network (JHCRN) is sponsoring a grant to promote inter-institutional research collaborations between Johns Hopkins Medicine and JHCRN affiliated institutions. This grant, Research Accelerator and Mentorship Program, will fund 1 to 3 projects, up to $50,000 over a 12-month period. Proposals including clinical and community-based research, practice-based research, and health services research are encouraged. For RFA please see attachment.

CardiAMP Heart Failure Trial
CAPRES and Dr. Gregory Kumkumian, enrolled their first patient into the CardiAMP Heart Failure Trial. The CardiAMP Heart Failure Trial, uses autologous stem cells for treatment of ischemic heart failure that has developed after a heart attack. Those patients who qualify must have the following: a diagnosis of ischemic left ventricular dysfunction, an ejection fraction of between 20-40%, have had a previous myocardial infarction (> 6 months), and be between the ages of 22-89.

Paradise Summary
Paradise-MI: Randomized, double-blind phase 3 study: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan) titrated to a target dose of 200 mg twice daily, compared to ramipril titrated to a target dose of 5 mg twice daily, in post-AMI patients with evidence of LV systolic dysfunction and/or pulmonary congestion
Major Inclusion:
1. Acute MI
2. Evidence of LV systolic dysfunction
Major Exclusion:
1. Known history of chronic HF
2. Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) performed or planned for index MI
3. Clinically significant right ventricular MI as index MI

IV Fe study drug for Iron Deficiency, in the Treatment of Heart failure
Major Inclusion:
§ Stable Heart failure (NYHA II-IV)
§ LVEF <35% within 12 months or
Major Exclusion:
§ Oral Fe supplementation.
§ AMI, TIA, or CVA within 3 months of enrollment.

Mandatory Flu Vaccinations Beginning October 8, 2018
We will offer free flu vaccine clinics to our employees, physicians, and volunteers as we have done every year, at various locations and times for your convenience. The flu clinic schedule and a detailed “Frequently Asked Questions” document will be placed on the SHIP Intranet or can be obtained from your manager. Those who receive the flu vaccine outside of Suburban Hospital will be required to provide documentation to Employee Health. The final flu clinic will be held on November 16, 2018. The deadline for vaccination and documentation is also November 16, 2018.
